I used to run Debian, where i got excellent subpixel rendering antialiased fonts by using libfreetype2 and KDE3.
I emerged X after emerging libfreetype2, which is called to support
antialiased true type fonts with this kind-of "font hinting"

But the antialiasing looks terribly ugly!
Has anyone experienced the same or solved the problem?
Do i need a patch?

hope someone has an idea...

I finished emerging KDE last night. I have anti-aliasing working in FluxBox so I wasn't expecting any trouble with KDE.

When I started KDE for the first time anti-aliasing was working fine. When I unchecked anti-aliasing in the control panel the fonts went to hell, as would be expected. However when I checked anti-aliasing they did not go back. I tried restarting X and the font-server. I even rebooted. Still no luck. Yes, the anti-aliasing box is checked upon restarting and rebooting so the option is being saved.

I really didn't spend too much time last night figuring it out. I will try getting it to work tonight. Hopefully I will have some luck and post a solution (if someone doesn't beat me to it).
