|
|
Hi,
Why am I seeing this? I don't have xpdf installed. I don't have it in my world file. Hell I don't even have it in my use flags. I have uninstalled ggv and gpdf as well. I want to get rid of this xpdf since all of it can be taken care of with evince and poppler.
any suggestions?
thanks.

Use emerge --tree to see what pulls xpdf in. |

Hi,
Thanks for the hint. It appears, it is CUPS. So does it mean I can't have both printing and evince at the same time? since poppler and xpdf are at loggerheads.

Just unmerge the xpdf first and then try to update again.
Code: | #emerge -C xpdf
#emerge -uvDanN world |

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. However, if you would have read my post thoroughly, you would have noticed that xpdf appears with 'N' against it, which means that it is not installed at present. CUPS is the package which needs xpdf. Hence I don't know what to do as I need printing support as well as evince.
cheers,

Did you try it ?
Ok, I don't know what is evince but I think that xpdf is deprecated and poppler is providing it's functionality, and it fixed this same blocking problem with me (xpdf is blocking poppler, not opposite) .
Code: | [blocks B ] <app-text/xpdf-3.01-r4 (is blocking app-text/poppler-0.4.3-r4) |

Hi,
evince is the document viewer for gnome. It shows pdf docs. I depends on poppler. Here is the output of the commands:
Code: |
localhost ~ # emerge -C xpdf
--- Couldn't find xpdf to unmerge.
>>> unmerge: No packages selected for removal.
|
Code: |
localhost ~ # emerge -uvDanN world
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

What if I don't want to run X at all? Why does cups need xpdf? _________________ --entropyv

I believe to "Print to PDF".. I also believe Poppler now provides that functionality without needing X libs... _________________ Edit the subject of the original post w/ [SOLVED] at the end if this thread is resolved. |
