Backup of system into a stage3 like manner

Hello all,

My ultra 5 has been running well, however in the event of a catastrophic faulure id like to have an archieve of the complete harddrive that can be reinstalled onto a new drive if need be.

Very much the same way gentoo installs the stage3 # tar -xvjpf stage?-*.tar.bz2.

Is there a script to do this archieve or does anyone know the best way.
