|
|
I have a e250 headless sun system running 2.4 kernel. Everything is working (finally). basically I had to install the whole thing through a terminal connection on my windows box. It boots correctly and shows a login correctly through the terminal session. My problem is that if I close the terminal window the e250 appears to stall completely, stops responding to pings, any ssh sessions I have open timeout etc. I have to leave the terminal session running for it to stay working. Annoying to say the least. Here's my /etc/inittab file for terminal setup:
Code: | cat /etc/inittab
#
# /etc/inittab: This file describes how the INIT process should set up
# the system in a certain run-level.

Is the key turned all the way on or just in the first position?
I seem to remember when running solaris that physically removing the terminal cable would drop it to the OK prompt but turning the key all the way on disabled the break.
Of course, I may be way off here and it's o/s related |

Stick a "kernel.stop-a=0" in /etc/sysctl.conf and run sysctl -p if you're not planning on a reboot.
That disables console break thus avoiding the "noise drops me to the OK prompt" issue. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

The key is only in the first position. After first position is the debug mode and then the locked mode....
As for the Kernel.stop-a=0 part, you say I should run that if I'm not planning on a reboot. What does that mean? After I set that up I cant reboot anymore? Sorry I'm definitly new to all this. Thanks |

You run "sysctl -p" after modifying /etc/sysctl.conf in order to take effect, that's what i mean you do it if you're not planning on rebooting the machine, sysctl gets run at boot time. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

plop it in the locked position and stop-A/break should be disabled. |

"kernel.stop-a=0" in /etc/sysctl.conf
