Okay, I've got two different Sun servers and bother are having issues with RAID and data integrity.
The systems are an Enterprise 4500 with external drive arrays, and an Enterprise 250.

I have raid and scsi built into the kernel, and a simple mirror on the E250 between sda1 and sdb1, the E4500 is mirrord across two controllers and the drives are sda1 and sdh1, the drives in each mirror are identical and have good Sun disk labels. The raids can be built, formatted with ext3, and data can be put onto them.

After that the problems start. I _just_ setup the E250, did the entire install with on /dev/md0, and boot her on up. I start to slowly loose stuff randomly, then the RAID doesn't want to start, now I've been running fsck.ext3 -fyv /dev/md0 repeatedly from the LiveCD boot for an hour and I just keep getting errors. Basically the same thing happens on the E450, but it's setup is more complex.

Is there some sort of issues with Sun/SCSI/Software RAID/ext3, or what????

Thought this might be needed
Code:
Vendor: FUJITSU   Model: MAG3091L SUN9.0G  Rev: 1111
Type:   Direct-Access                      ANSI SCSI revision: 02

and this
Code:
livecd root # cat /etc/raidtab
raiddev /dev/md0
        raid-level      1
        nr-raid-disks   2
        nr-spare-disks  0
        persistent-superblock   1
        chunk-size      32

        device          /dev/sda1
        raid-disk       0
        device          /dev/sdb1
        raid-disk       1

Hi,

I'm runnning a sun e250 with raid 1 (mirroring raid) without any difficulties,

my /boot is ext2
my / is ext3

with raid5 i had problems on sparc but that was due to the fact that you should not start an raid5 partition on the first block of an disk as it overwrites the partition table that way :)

Yep, that's how I started, and kept loosing the partitions. Then I because older and wiser (over about a week) and figured to start it all at 1.

There might be an issue with the backplane of the E250 actually.

You mean your e250's backplane or all e250's in general?

Mine... I think it bit the big one shortly after I recived it. A new box is on it's way, but now I won't be able to set the stripes up since I'm not at it anymore.

The mirrors have been perfectly happy since I stoped using the two bad slots.

I've been running a software raid 5 for over a month now and with several reboots, still no troubles. I am in the process of trying to add mirroring to boot drive. I was wondering how you guys got that working. Heres a post I've submitted my troubles:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-96109-highlight-.html

Also how did u set your silo.conf file?? Did u do the install on md0 to begin with or did u add it after the install? Thanks!
