I'm having a really strange problem. I'm running a Xircom RealPort CardBus PCMCIA card (RBEM56G-100) on a Dell CPx laptop. The kernel pcmcia drivers didn't work, and I found a post in the forums suggesting I disable those and emerge pcmcia-cs. The pcmcia-cs drivers work fine except for one case.
The combination of a Cisco 3550 switch + Xircom + dhcpcd doesn't work. It times out waiting for a response. Cisco switch + static IP works. Hub + DHCP works. Cisco switch + DHCP works with other distros I tried. I haven't tried another NIC or another dhcp client like pump yet. I'll also try updating pcmcia-cs to 3.2.4 and see how that goes. |

I have the same hardware, and am running with the kernel modules.
Have to enable hotplug in the kernel, and pci hotplugging
Cardbus cards are PCI devices
Also emerge the hotplug utilities
and edit net.eth0 to require hotplug as well as pcmcia
