Given his avatar (guy in SS uniform), his location ("where whites aren't the minority yet") and his homepage (http://www.thepaganfront.com/, "The Pagan Front - National Socialist Black Metal"), this guy is obviously a nazi. While the mods can kick him out for all I care, I'm not aware of a specific forum policy against nazis. Well, perhaps it's time we get one, something along the lines of 'Racist utterance -> ban'

Alien, could you please change the thread's title to 'What to do about nazis in the forums' or something like that? Thanks.

Let him try posting questions, but I reserve the right to not help when I see things like "where whites aren't the minority yet"

As sad and pathetic as I find Nazism to be, I see no reason why someone should be banned from this forum just for being a bigot. One's views on race shouldn't have much bearing when discussing Gentoo.

If he starts going off on a racist tirade against another user, that's a different matter -- but no different, to my mind, than if he started going off on a non-racist tirade against another user. As long as everyone is civil and helpful, it shouldn't matter what their political view are.

Here is my reply to someone who mailed forum-mods about this:
pjp wrote:
First, the world is full of differing opinions and ideas. The forums
are no different, provided that the guidelines are followed.

As for the avatar, there is nothing illegal about it in the US. For
those that find it offensive, or where it may be illegal in their
country, user profiles now allow for disabling the display of avatars.

The location does not break any forum rules that I can think of, nor
does his current signature. Neither do I see any forum rules being
broken with regards to the PM and his posts in the link you provided.
If you feel that one has been, please let us know, and we will
consider it.

I'm sorry that you disagree with some of this person's commentary, but
nobody agrees with everyone they meet, nor everything they encounter.

Gentoo doesn't "endorse" any commentary (avatar's, sigs, post content)
of any forums user.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

mod edit: merged this and the following posts.

hi!

One question: Does the gentoo-forums (or gentoo at all) should accept ANY political ideas in the forums?

One reason: I founded someone who was on put an link to an extreme-right political website. As I read the gentoo social contract long time ago, I think I remember that there should be something like "constructive" and nothing "destructive" in these forums. So, could we/you accept that?

Because I don't know your opinion, and because I still respect the guy who put "this" on the forum, I won't put the link here, til noone ask for. Even if I'm deeply shocked from this ideas/link.

So what should I do? Accused him? Or let him do what he is doing?

We are usually very broad minded when it comes to politics. It would be unnaceptable if it had some kind of prejudice like racism though.

It may sound hard, but this piece of **** should be "banned" (unfortunately this can't be done) from this forum !!

To expose your personal opinion is no crime, but this forum should not be a place for nacism .

There should be a vote to kick him . which i will start now !

I'm confused. What does his nazism have to do with gentoo and the gentoo forums, specifically?

You've my vote. I never mixed politics with these forums (I've my opinions of course), but racism should be banned. Idon't know how many of you are black or yellow or red or white or green (does the internet reach Mars already?), and I don't care. So let him stay "where whites aren't the minority yet", but out of this community.

Banning someone just because of their views is fascist.

If he starts going on with hate talk, ban him. But at present, his posts look pretty tame.

I will not be checking his website anytime soon.

Just ignore him. Why make a fuss about it? There are lots of idiots on the internet, still you use it, don't you? As far he's not misusing the forums for his propaganda, I don't really see a problem.

Hi cokehabit (I pray to you nick . 8O .)

Take a look at his profile and the website he is pointing on.

The whole story about starting another thread was to see how many of our forum-friends would tolerate this kind of racism.

But my thread was closed , so the poll died.

Well, a user is free to put whatever reasonable information he or she chooses in his or her profile. No one is obligated in any way to visit your site if you link to it from your signature or homepage in your profile.

However, I do not believe I am qualified enough to speak on behalf of the moderation team as a whole, so I will end my explanation as-is until such time as I've discussed it over with the rest of the moderators/admins.

I don't think he needs to be banned unless he tries to spread his BS, but asking him to change his avatar and to not link to a racist site (and the location) would be quite reasonable, IMHO!

It definatly does disturbe me to have someone in the community, who is making propaganda for his racist fews within these fora. And that is what he does by using this avatar and linking to this page!

As long as he he behaves I don't have a problem with him being around, but please let him delete his avatar and the link (and the location) he added to make clear that racism is not tolerated in this great community!

Edit: Forgot to mention his location.

I read some of his posts. All I saw were genuine Gentoo posts, not the OTW crap that a lot of us talk about. I thought witch hunts were a thing of the past...

What if someone with thousands of post, like cokehabit ie., would choose to use a clear nazi symbol as his avatar?

How would the moderators/site admins see the situation if a symbol like that appears in every other thread? What kind of impression would that give to someone new to these fora? Is this really not an issue to the Gentoo community?

I don't think I would have stayed with this fine OS if I found out that Nazi symbols and propaganda exists undisputed by the officals. This gives Gentoo a bad reputation, IMHO!

As far as I understand the admins of the Gentoo Forums are not bound whether something is illegal or not. If they/the community decides that such symbols, links and statements are not welcome, 1U simply would have to change his profile to something adequate or get the f*ck outa here!

What would give them a far worse reputation would be a bunch of Overbearing, zealous, hardasses that do not allow you to express your own beliefs or opinions.

And if the only reason you use Gentoo, is because of the "people" in these forums, then there is somthing wrong.
