Hey everyone,

I've just got to the stage where I've finished installing and configuring Gentoo on a Compaq AlphaServer DS10 at work...nice machine except I powered it down with the usual 'poweroff' command and now it doesn't want to boot at all! 8O

I switch the machine on again and it gets to the stage where it loads the ELSA (graphics card) BIOS emulation support and then the screen just goes blank and the machine powers down! It doesn't beep, complain, or anything....just powers down!

I've tried removing memory modules and although the DS10 gives me some indication that some modules are missing (beeps a few times), it still decides to power down after the loading of the graphics card BIOS emulation support.

Has this happened to anyone else before or does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't have a DS10, so this may not apply, however.... check to see if you have a failed cooling fan. On my 164LX, when the CPU fan failed, it would refuse to boot or show anything on the display. A new fan fixed the problem...

Beyond that, yank the clock battery, wait an hour and hope for the best?
