|
|
I have a wlan usb adapter. Pluging it in is correctly detected by the kernel. lsusb tells me:
# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0ace:1211 ZyDAS 802.11b/g USB2 WiFi
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
I use a kernel-2.6.14 where I have enabled the zd1201 driver as a module and FW_LOADER. I furthermore have installed the zd1201 firmware ebuild.
And thats where I am stuck. Hotplug as it is does not trigger loading the kernel-module and the firmware, when I plug in the usb-device. Any idea what else I need to do, to make a wlan0 device appear? _________________ [ http://www.buzztard.org | http://www.sonicpulse.de | http://www.eksor.de ] |

did you try to load your usb stick manually? you could also check dmesg and /var/log/messages to check, what's happening, when you plug the stick in. |

|
|
I'm having a very similar problem at the moment as well.
I am running a 2.6.13 vanilla kernel. I'm all out of leads, but I feel I'm very close. I followed the directions under http://markbyers.com/moinmoin/moin.cgi/Zd1201Gentoo
In this case, it seems to be recognized by the kernel, but I see no interface for it with "ifconfig -a". dmesg reports:
Code: | usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
usb 1-2: ep0 maxpacket = 8
usb 1-2: default language 0x0409
usb 1-2: new device strings: Mfr=0, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 1-2: Product: USB WLAN
usb 1-2: hotplug
usb 1-2: adding 1-2:1.0 (config #1, interface 0)
usb 1-2:1.0 hotplug
zd1201 1-2:1.0 usb_probe_interface
zd1201 1-2:1.0 usb_probe_interface - got id
|
Looks OK, no? But nothing under ifconfig -a.
lsusb reports:
Code: | Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0586:3400 ZyXEL Communications Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
|
I also tried just using the native 2.6.13 kermel option, but then I get complaints about not finding the firmware, although I installed it as directed by the driver instuctions at http://linux-lc100020.sourceforge.net/.
Does anyone have any ideas? I guess I'd be really interested in seeing a recent mini HOWTO type of thing to get this to work under Gentoo. |

does iwconfig list your adapter? there should be a wlan0. if so, you can configure it manually with iwconfig and then fire it up with ifconfig. |

I don't know about the original poster, but the interface will not appear via ifconfig -a nor by iwconfig.
I have also in the meantime played with ndiswrapper, but also with no luck. After copying over the windows drivers, ndiswrapper -l reports:
Code: | ~# ndiswrapper -l
Installed ndis drivers:
zd1201u driver present, hardware present
|
That looks good, but still no sign of the interface.
Does anyone have any ideas? |

I was finally able to get this working after noticing that my USB thumbdrive was also no longer working. The soution was extremely simple -- a simple "emerge -u udev" brought my ancient udev stuff up to date, and that got it all working. |
