While I plan on buying a new system in January specifically for Gentoo, I'm rather impatient and want to dual boot my main machine.

I'm not worried about any of the hardware in the box (GeForce2, SB Live!, 3com 3c95x) except for the SiS 745 chipset on my motherboard. I'm NOT using built on ANYTHING. The NIC, Sound, etc. are all seperate cards. Are there any tips I need to know when using this setup? I did a search and found some problems with DHCP. Is this an isolated event or is it something that a lot of people are running into?

I kinda got the idea, although I'm not fluent in anything but bad english, so I could only pick apart bits of the last part.

/etc/X11/XF86Config:

Section "Monitor"
just add:
Option "DPMS"

Don't see why this wouldn't work.

cult hero,

The only problem that some SiS 745 mobos seem to have, is when the kernel is compiled with smp+APIC (multiprocessor) support, they mess up with IRQ routing.

I "only" experienced this problem with the UT2003-gentoo install, and the last knoppix demo-cd.

But, except for that problem, these mobos are very stable (and cheap), at least more stable than VIAs

I have been running Gentoo 1.4 on my MSI sis745 board for a little over 3 months. I love it, and I haven't booted into windoze more than once since then.

The one thing that has been bugging me is that I haven't figured out how to get the computer to shutdown without having to hit the power button. Any help?
