Folks, I'm wondering if there is interest in creating an New Jersey Gentoo Linux Users Group (NJ-GLUG) I live in Central NJ near Rutgers University.

Come on now, there has to be more Gentoo users than just me in the Garden State!!!
Seriously though, I'm interested in organising a group (informal at first) sort of an extension of the forums...

Good That's a start then. I have a couple of friends up in Bergen county that also use Gentoo. With any luck we can get some interest going for a once a month type of meeting.

i'm in jersey city, while attending school at NYU. i'd be up for this if it was some place easily commutable sans car.

How about someplace in New Brunswick?
Can be gotten to by train from Penn Station (NYC or Newark)
Any thoughts? _________________ "Always remember to mount a scratch monkey..." |

I'm thinking maybe one of the coffee houses. There is one on Easton Ave, I think it is called Cafe 52.
I'll check and post something.

Ok,
Cafe52 it is, 52 Easton Ave., New Brunswick, NJ
Just a short walk up the hill from the NE Corridor line train station.
Any ideas, for which weeknight? I'm voting for a Thursday or Wednesday night, but I'm open every day except Monday.

Heyyyyyyy - I live in Old Bridge, about 10 miles south of New Brunswick.
I'm totally in! If we do it on a weekday please make it late - 8pm or later (if nobody minds). But I have no problems with weekends.
I vote for Wednesday night - 8pm.
I think that New Bruswick is a pretty good choice due to its location in central NJ. It's an hour north of Philly and an hour south of Manhattan. It's highly accessible by rail and automobile - Route 1, Route 18, Route 287, and the Turnpike all pass through New Brunswick. _________________ bak bak BAAAAAAAK! |

*Grin* Equally painful to get to from anywhere
Besides, maybe we can start a Gentoo revolution at Rutgers

Let's set a date. How about in two weeks, on Wednesday 4/16?
How's that for everyone?
The reason I think we should wait two weeks is so that we can get the word out. Perhaps the fine folks at the Gentoo Weekly Newsletter would be kind enough to give us a plug in the 4/8 and 4/15 issues. _________________ bak bak BAAAAAAAK! |

I'm located in Union, NJ half of the year, seeing as how I'm a student at Kean University. I've been using Gentoo for a while now, but I just signed up for the forum today to see if I could help some noobs out.
If the meet is on one of the nights I'm actually sober, I'm down for it _________________ "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject."

Dan:
Since you're in charge by default, I just wanted to remind you to send a message to the newsletter people (gwn-feedback@gentoo.org) and ask them to mention the date, time, and location of the meeting.
Here's some suggested text:
New Jersey Gentoo Linux Users Groups
We're a couple of Gentoo users trying to start a "NJ-GLUG" in the Central New Jersey area. We hope that those of you living or working in this area can join us for our first meeting. The address is below (Mapquest is your friend) if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail us (your e-mail here, or mine: usmanc~bigfoot~com.

Ok,
I am registering the domain njglug.org. I have space on a server (not gentoo, unfortunately) and will be putting up a page there, once the domain is created. Anyone want to do content? I suck at drawing

Heya all,
I'm very interested in joining an NJ based Gentoo LUG, however I won't be able to attend the meeting.
Will someone be putting together the beginnings of a membership roster? This would be the first LUG I've had the opportunity to join so I'm sketchy on the details.
Regards,

Sure, we can certainly do that, and I think we can even put up a on line thing at some point. Keep minutes, etc, if anyone is interested.

Dan - I'll do the content. But please don't spend too much money on this - we have no idea how this is going to turn out.
Rob - Come on, what could POSSIBLY be more important than a meeting with your fellow Gentoo users? Jefferson Twp is ONLY an hour away from NB - just hop on 287 and take the Easton Ave exit.
