|
|
I'm not sure what I changed, but cups isn't working anymore
Symptoms:
I am able to print using
cat test.txt > /dev/lp0
/etc/init.d/cupsd stop brings up [!!]
I zapped it, unmerged cups, merged it again, restarted it and got an OK, but cups still didn't work, stopping it brought up [!!] again.
If there are any config files that would be helpful to see please let me know.
Thanks |

After you remerged cups did you go the http://localhost:631/ to configure cups? I hope you aren't offended by the question. _________________ After Perl everything else is just assembly language. |

yes, I couldn't connect to it. I can connect to localhost:901 for swat though,, so I'd think 631 would work |

This is strange. Now cupsd will stop and start fine, I just can't access localhost:631. Does anybody have any ideas of what configuration files to check? I don't think I changed anything, and I know my router is set to let me use that port (though I wouldn't think it'd matter since its on my own computer). |

The router does not matter. The config file is /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.
You might want to do a netstat -aut which will tell you which ports are being listened to. And also an lsof -i which will tell you which programs are listening to which ports. You will need to emerge net-tools and lsof to install these tools. _________________ After Perl everything else is just assembly language. |

Thanks Jimbow
Problem solved, turns out that somehow the lines in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf telling it to listen to port 631 had been commented out. Kinda strange, but at least its working now! |

I am glad you solved it. But the solution is a bit of a mystery because all of those lines are commented out in my cupsd.conf and yet it listens on the default port 631 just fine. _________________ After Perl everything else is just assembly language. |
