xorg can autogenerate xorg.conf but it doesn't cover all the hardware/options. Not counting gentoo I'm using also Arch and Arch has hwd tool, similar to lshw in gentoo but hwd can generate xorg.conf files and it's quite good (corret settings for my LCD in laptop, USB mouse with wheel etc. - all working) hwd with dependencies (lshwd ddcinfo-arch) can be used in gentoo but why not update gentoo livecd-tools and add that usefull script from arch (or make similar) It could be quite handy on gentoo instalation cd's

livecd-tools already can generate xconfigs:
Code: | /etc/init.d/autoconfig start
/etc/init.d/x-setup start |
