Hi,

I run Gentoo 2.6.12-gentoo-r9 with kde 3.4.2
I wish to setup my kde, for spelling, so that whatever application I use that relies on spell chek provided by kde allows me to check at least two languages (English and Italian). Obviously, check automatically, while I type and while I also switch from one language to the other while typing.

Here is the applications I commonly use:
- kmail
- kopete
- OOo 1.1.4
- mozilla-firefox
- xchat

Here is my current settings:
Control Center
KDE Components --> Spell Checker
- Create root/affix..... is uncheked
- Consider run-.... is unchecked
- Dictionary: iSpell Default (with no other options in the drop down menue)
- Encoding: UTF-8 (I manually set it as preferred one)
- Client: International Ispell (International Ispell, Aspell and Hspell available options in the drop down menue)

Code:
$ emerge -pv ispell
[ebuild  N    ] app-text/ispell-3.2.06-r6  575 kB

$ emerge -pv ispell-it
[ebuild  N    ] app-text/ispell-3.2.06-r6  575 kB
[ebuild  N    ] app-dicts/ispell-it-2001  1,089 kB

$ emerge -pv aspell
[ebuild   R   ] app-text/aspell-0.50.5-r4  +gpm 0 kB

 $ emerge -pv aspell-it
[ebuild  N    ] app-dicts/aspell-it-0.53.0  256 kB

Please advice...

Thank you,
Spiro

I guess you'll have to emerge aspell-it.

Hi,

first of all, which spell engine do I have to choose: Ispell, Asplee, Ispell International?
I ask this because if I emerge aspell-it then i assume I have to set aspell as spell check.

So, please first let me understand which engine to use, which will also automatically autodetect the language I type and adapt.
Then, please list all packages I should emerge (All of them)

Thank you for now,
Spiro

You can start by setting the USE-flag "spell" in make.conf, and then run:

Code:
emerge world --newuse -p

then all required spell engines will be emerged by the apps that need them.
