| I have a POS laptop i need to put LINUX on and it doesn't look like its gonna be able to compile gentoo. Its a K6 so i can't use a stage 3 iso, so i think i'm goanna have to go w/ another distro. I narrowed it down to those. Which is better? If ther are others i should try tell me. I tried BSD, but it wouldn't talk to my netcard. |

| Bah -- read this thread. I've gotten Gentoo to run on a Pentium with 24 MB of RAM. |

| Thats all too much trouble. Plus NFS isn't working on my 'big box.' Anyway, this is only a temporary solution until FreeBSD 5 comes out with (hopefully) better PCMCIA support. |

You don't need NFS; scp, Samba, even ftp could all work.
And then you'd have Gentoo... come on, you know you like Gentoo. |

As of this morning slack had dl'd debian ahd failed. I installed slack. It sucks comapred to gentoo, but the machine does what it needs to and i didn't have to spend a week(which i don't have) building it. Its not my com anyway :). Well, its getting FreeBSD 5 when its out.
Do any of y'all know how to lower the timeout in LILO?
Yes i know grub's better, but it already installed LILO. |
