Ok, when I have some spare time, I would like to port to x86-64, just to ready when Hammer comes out :)

Anyone else is interested?

I guess we are all interested and want to have support for it :)

But anyway...No "standard" User will have a hammer before mid-end 2003 because
1. of it's price (speculation - I don't know wether it will be too expensive for most of us for the first months)
2. Who buys something, nothing is supported ? Right, nobody but the devs ;-)

But we'll see...I doubt I can help too much since my interest in programming is heavily specified to C# / .NET / Mono :)

I plan to get a hammer system as soon as they come out, I'm already saving up for it, and will soon have my student loan, and scholarship to help me pay for it, so what if I have to live of noodles at 9p per packet, a hammer system will be awesome.
Not sure if I should wait a little longer though and get a dual hammer setup.

Just been having a nosey round, not sure if you have already seen it but http://www.x86-64.org/ is a site supported by AMD for porting open source projects to x86-64.

Well here it is, April 2nd, 20 more days before the Opteron is released. I'm trying to get an eval board from MSI to build Gentoo on. Has any progress been made?

I haven't had too much time lately, but the simnow emu runs on my machine, but I can find detailed docs about how it works, so right now I give up with simnow and started using bochs (I am more familiar with bochs), bochs has x86-64 support, yes, but it is as slow as hell, trying to compile something in the vm, but I will try this more when time permits

this is an old thread, but for those who care. There is an almost complete amd64 port in the CVS. Stages and a LiveCD should be released shortly.

There is a semi-official AMD64 release.. The livecd and stages are on the normal gentoo mirrors in /experimental/amd64 and you can get install notes at http://dev.gentoo.org/~tester/amd64-tech-notes.html
