| Right after I read the newsletter, in anger, i deleted my Gentoo partitions and installed Windows 95. I am soo much happier now... No compiling crap no USE this or that... I think everyone should do the same and make sure you let Gentoo developers know how happy you are with Win95. Make sure you do this before April 2. |

When i saw the post on slashdot about going to RPMS, i was thinking...oh, well they just mean rpm compliance...and then when I read the newsletter, I immediately thought...oh it must be April 1st...then i looked at my calander, there it was...and I started laughing. yeah for april fools jokes...
last year I conviced my family and girlfriend I'd be kicked out of USC...I let it go for almost the whole day, and then it was a beautiful. anyway...
happy april fools day. |

I had to go and wash my underwear
I wonder if any RH developers are reading this thread...
Seems that everyone freaked out as much as I did.

Man, what a beautiful sensation as the hook enters my mouth. I taste the bait. Then I feel the hook drive home. Pain Pain Pain. The sense of relief I felt at realizing it was april fools day was unbelievable.
Good job. |

Let's see..
/me gathers a few old FBSD+RH+Mandrake CD's
I found 15 of 'em..
Though I don't could my old 6-CD-set of Red Hat 5.0, that's for sure. I'll keep them for ever.. :p
The Red Hat Power Tools CD-ROM set contains complete source code, Linux archives from sunsite.unc.edu, Linux kernels up to 2.0.32, and experimental kernel up to 2.1.70. Bla bla RPM format.

Come on, Portage & Programming is a support forum (even on April 1st)

Well, I do not think this is a good idea, just for the simplicity I think we should port the .msi, it is even more simple then rpm and we will get the cross-platform packaging system, what you you guy think?

I hope, it is not a joke. I am quite sick of compiling all and and night.
Do you think, it's normal to wait half an hour just to install the tuxracer
for my kid? It is also really annoying to have to wait 10 minutes only
to be able to use graphviz...
And all this fuzz about the compilation flags and so. It is really weird.
I really like gentoo, but this portage scrap must vanish a.s.a.p. |

Hehehe then you have seriously choosen the wrong distro m8.
Almost could think this post was a *flamebait!* but just in case it isn't, maybe you should look for an other alternative ? RedHat and BlueHat certainly would welcome a new user...and SuSE and the other distros as well.
My first post was writen in jest and filled with as much irony and cynicism as I am able to express in english

at least it does show something doesnt it?
everybody thinks ebuilds are great, and nobody thinks much of rpm anyway! I certainly hope gentoo stays this way...
it DOES go to show another thing as well - just because the LSB is there does not mean that we <have> to follow it to the letter. I mean, what's with the required X for example. Sure i think X is a nice-to-have, but a required???
bah. well. |
