I'm new to gentoo. I'm trying to install from stage one, i got everything upto emerge rsync:
/etc/make.profile is not being found
rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage has a temporary failure in name resolution
could this be the result of my network card configuration? |

Your DNS is broken. Your network card may not be set up right (double-check the output of ifconfig), or /etc/resolv.conf might be wrong (check it too). |

See if you can get to the ouside world by pinging something by IP, say, "ping 209.98.98.98". (It's easy to remember and always online.)
If that works but "ping ra.visi.com" (the name of that computer; one of my ISP's nameservers) doesn't, fix your /etc/resolv.conf. |

Well, grr!
I can ping outside addresses, even rsync.gentoo.org, but i cant connect to rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage a friend said there was something messed up about port 873 on that site. |
