Big thanks to b3cks for providing nitro a temporary new home on his webserver!!!!!!!

2.6.12-nitro4 "Task till dawn"
DONT USE WITH ____REISER4____ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ITS BROKEN

READ THIS FIRST
Nitro-sources is an experimental kernel patchset which is NOT supported by the Gentoo devs. If you have problems with something, see if the problem persists with a kernel supported by Gentoo. If you still have the same problem with a kernel supported by Gentoo (like vanilla-sources), then file a bug report at h**p://bugs.gentoo.org . If you only had the problem with 2.6.12-nitro4, and not with a vanilla kernel, then bug us in this thread.

NOTE: THIS IS A REPATCH FROM SCRATCH, Consider Experimental until we have some reports !!!!

There is very little support for GCC4 PROBLEMS, ATI/NVIDIA MODULES OR REISER4

Need exhaustive feedback on x86_64 and ppc, so please do report and please do it with
SUFFICIENT debug info (dmesg etc..) The latter applies to ALL bugreports

PLEASE READ SPECIAL NOTES BELOW CHANGENOTES BEFORE POSTING BUGS !!!

This kernel already contains the ipw2100 and ipw2200 drivers same version as portage !!!

changes since -nitro3

Code:

a few updates
i.e. ipw2x00 drivers now the versions like in portage ;)

ctls for staircase parameters (sorry Con, dont kill me for it lol)

hmm, see patchlist ;)

IMPORTANT: THE WHOLE NITRO IS REPATCHED FROM SCRATCH AGAIN]!!!

Special Notes:
IPW2x00 are now synced with portage, test them to see if not accidentally broken :S

Win4Lin users: if still not working, will kick it out in next release

Reiser4 users: Reiser4 is not compatible with 4K STACKS

SWSUSP2: need reports

Only Nvidia drivers 76.64 and 76.67 were __verified__ to work, use NVAgp=3 or 2, it works and is faster (for me at least)

If having problems with ATI DRIVERS see this post and the others on the subject in that thread : }

BrokenOut: __SORRY__

Stuff not in NiTR0 menu is arch dependent stuff, you will find it in the usual place of Kconfig

Staircase controls: this is no magic, wont make u an uber desktop ;)
test as you want to find out best settings... i go with 1 10 1 and am ok for now ;)
settings are in these ranges:
timeslice = {1 to 20}
timeslice_factor = {10 to 26}
burst_factor = {1 to 10}
Can also be changed on the fly through /proc/sys/kernel/{timeslice,timeslice_factor,burst_factor} with an echo command too

OK, now the LINKS:

Since the server by university Karlsruhe seems to have a serious problem today, another high speed mirror has been set up: ;)

ebuild:
nitro-sources-2.6.12-r4.ebuild

distfiles:
patch-2.6.12-nitro4.bz2

Note: In most cases it should be enough to download the ebuild (in bold letters), the other required files will be downloaded automatically from my webspace while emerging the ebuild!

Have fun! :)

You can say that loud....
Our university's server got hacked earlier this week, im not sure
how long it will last until we'll be running again.....

Thanks Lenz,
a few nitro users are the main reason why im still doing this and will keep
it this way for some time....

Then I'm forced to shut the machine down, because nothing else is possible anymore... any idea? It also said that something is "tainted", but syslog-ng didn't log it.

Man you make the best out of kernels always look at this:
Code:
kensai@kensai ~ $ uname -a
Linux kensai 2.6.12-nitro4 #1 Fri Jul 15 19:36:07 UTC 2005 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP  2000+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

Code:
kensai@kensai ~ $ glxgears
11551 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2310.200 FPS
11697 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2339.400 FPS

I usually get 2070 FPS and with other nitro sources I get 2250 with this I'm far better in FPS. Tiger683 I love you!!!!!.:D :lol:

If you want something nice and simple I recommend TV Time. It even has XMLTV support to show you what is on now and next. :D

Looking good Tiger683. :mrgreen:

I decided on going with TVTime thanks for the suggestion :) only one slight problem is I don't have full colour...... oh I did manage to get my FM tuner working though :) thanks to Gkrellm2 and the radio plugin. If you got any info on the non full color problem please point me to a howto or something I can't seem to find one....
