|
|
Hello, Im new to gentoo. My prior system was slackware8-10.
I am familiar with the way slackware has its packages, just a tarball of the entire install structure.
My question is, is it possible just to "tar x" a slackware package to / without any trouble?
( Then later, if i ever wanted to uninstall I would manually take out all the directories/files created by the tar extraction.) |

Yes, of course. If untarred package will work - that's other question. Probably not. |

Thanks! As I had thought, gentoo's system structure is set up like slackware's. |

actually, gentoo uses the same thing with binairy packages: they are just .tar.bz2 files which are extracted to /.
You'll have to be carefull though, gentoo's file structure might be different from slackware's, especially with packages related to the init system _________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit. |
