Anybody else getting CRC errors after burning the ISO image to a CD and trying to boot? I can get all the way to loading kernel before it says "CRC error - system halted". I've tried using two separate CDs on two completely different computers with the same error. The file I used was Gentoo-ix86-1.2.iso |

Hmm... md5sums of the CDs would be awfully nice. If you have a *nix box available, please post the output of the following for each of your CDs:
Code: | dd if=/dev/cdrom | md5sum |

This is what the command returns:
[root@localhost root]# dd if=/dev/cdrom | md5sum
dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error
33024+0 records in
33024+0 records out

Some other information - the exact step I get the CRC error in is after "Uncompressing Linux..." |

www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/releases/build/1.2/ is reporting the md5 should be ddee9456051785ebdd92f3d28a033e61; check your .ISO. If the ISO is different, re-download it; if it's not, burn it again on a slower speed. |

I'm having the same problem with one of my machines. I get a crc error when the kernel uncompresses when booting the initial ISO.
The MD5sum checks out fine, and I booted the disc on another machine without any problems. I burned the ISO twice. Once at 8x and again at 2x. No difference.
I also tried turning of CPU caches and whatnot, but that didn't help either.
Bad CDROM drive perhaps?
Thanks. |

A lot of people are mentioning it with 1.2... try the 1.1a ISO. If you install from stage 1, there is no difference. |

Thinkpad 770 - dies after trying to uncompress linux. Small iso says that it cannot find kernel.
On my desktop machine, big iso started normally |
