I emerged xine, but it did not work. So I unemerged it. Then I installed it using the native tar package as described here:
http://xinehq.de/index.php/faq#BUILDING
I figured out what my problems were, I needed to add "-A arts" on the command line so xine would work with KDE's arts sound system. Now I want to uninstall the native xine, and re-install the emerged xine.
I can't find any instructions on how to un-install the native xine. I think it is something like "make uninstall" on most unix sysems, but I forgot what the command is. I'm not having much luck in Google yet. I know it's easy, you just have to know the right command.
Once I re-install using emerge, I will use the tricks I learned doing it the hard way. Sorry I am so confused!

| Well are you sure it wasn't "make uninstall". To be sure you could of course check from the original Makefile. I unpacked xine-lib-beta from /usr/portage/distfiles directory and atleast it seems to have "uninstall" section. |
