Nicest e16 shot I've ever seen. Mind sharing the theme?

Yeah I'd like to know what theme is it too :-)
Also, your Xdefaults and GTK theme if possible :-)

Great desktop!
Regards,
cron0

Thanks. It's a custom theme. I made it to match wintah (the gtk2 theme in the screenshot). It's made from winter, so the buttons and almost all the pager decorations (all except the "RIGHT PAGER") are like winter's. The menus are custom, though. They look like wintah's menus.

Here it is: www.xente.mundo-r.com/narf/myw.tar.bz2

My .Xdefaults is quite simple, but if you want it...

Code:

The Gnome developers have *unofficially* said the session manager is broken in design (let alone that bug in that thread linked to). Gnome is probably my favorite DE, even more than KDE, WinXP or OSX. I get a lot done, and things are arranged in a simple fashion. I've never used XFCE-panel, but compared to fbpanel and pypanel gnome panel is a lot more configurable and useable. I don't see what else you need a panel to do, show open programs, notification area and a few applets. The ability to move all widgets seals the deal. What can XFCE-panel do extra? I've heard that default XFCE uses more resources than GNOME nowadays (searching for the article that stated that right now)...

UPDATE: Blah, I can't find where I saw that. OSnews reports XFCE only uses 20mb less in resources compared to XFCE, and I like gnome's look better. Wait until Gnome 2.12, then I bet they'll be even in resource useage.

well pointed out,

btw where have you got your milk theme from?

Still using fvwm. I've played with the config for so long now that at this point I can say the config is definitely all made by me...

Single page

My 4x4 desk

I've really started to like engage bar. Though it is kinda buggy. I wrote some silly scripts to replace the launcher icons with a thumbnail of the app and a linky to the window. And a horribly hacked bash script to update the album cover when I'm listening to music.

As you can see from the 4x4, I don't close apps, nor do I thumbnail them. So I need a fast way to jump to the right place. I'm not much of a virtual desktop fan. With a 4x4 single desktop I can move more quickly windows around to make some clusters of related apps.

I've hacked up some other window switching methods (like a giant pager that pops up), but those would look really silly on a screenshot. So I omitted them.

EvilWM, compiled from Ports. Works pretty well and consumes little memory. And for the wallpaper: Found it on some random place on Google.
Oh, here I found it again:

I think it's pretty cool for a KDE desktop. One of the best I have seen.

Too much everywhere? I have to to agree, I miss grouping windows and collapsing to title bars, as in Fluxbox. But I gues that's just KDE for you.

On the other hand, I have to open my terminals somewhere :p

On Torsmo, how do I add it automatically to my session? I set KDE to use a blank session, after my Gnome woes, but I figure there's a way to add a program. I gave superkaramba a look in for a system monitor, but it put too much crap on my screen for my liking. The same with gkrellm.

I like KDE for the most part, and I'll probably use it on my laptop (Flux isn't great when you're on the move). I don't like the fact it buries me in pointless "candy" options and its configuration can be somewhat obtuse.

EDIT: Hah, if you don't like Plastik, find me for me some "slim" ones. I had very, very minimal window decoration in Fluxbox, I've yet to find the same for KDE.

This looks very professional, small, and nice: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=19196
Heres a good QT theme to go with the ^ kwin theme: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=22913

If Gnome-Session is the only problem you had, I would switch back cause thats not very hard to fix.

I'm still a child at heart.
Gnome 2.10 with the Gartoon icon set.

PS. Does anyone know of a theme that would look good with those icons and that wallpaper? And what can I do about the panel to integrate it more?

So what's the fix? Every single time I tell Gnome to give me a blank session, it instead opens a whole bunch of crap. Nice theme links, btw.

You can try removing ~/.gnome2/session and also check permissions for that whole folder, maybe you cant change it cause its readonly

If you want to make sure run (in home): chmod -R 644 ~/.gnome2/*
