|

Hi guys,
I'm working on making a presentation of Gentoo Linux for my local LUG (SSLUG - 6000+ members and I have found myself lacking a few answers:
1) When did Gentoo Linux Start - when was it at stable - ie. 1.0 status?
2) Who started it?
3) You say 3500+ ebuilds/packages in "about Gentoo" but my :
ls /usr/portage/*-* -l | grep drw | wc -l
says 4039 at current. perhaps you should change it to 4000+ ?
I'll add questions to this thread when I come up with something I can't seem to find an answer for.
Thank you in advance.
p.s. Please note if you have anything that you particularly thing I should mention - it's a 2 - 2½ hour thing - and I will make the presentation (in english) available on my site - vsen.dk - when it's done - incl. a summary of what I*m going to say under each bullitpoint. _________________ Best regards,

Thanks.
I just got a meeting date - and it's (if a vacant room can be found - which it most likely can) going to be this tuesday (yes - that's soon
Therefore I wanted to ask you guys about something that I would have otherwise just researched myself.
Gentoo Linux - LSB Compliance.
AFAIK Gentoo Linux complies - mostly. Where it doesn't (which is where?) it is due to the fact that some people think of the current LSB as a straight jacket - and it is a work in progress - that hasn't progressed far enough to be followed 100%.
questions:
1) what parts of Gentoo Linux (summarized) isn't in LSB compliance
2) why aren't they (ie. what would break I guess
I'll sum this up, to a short intro to the LSB in Gentoo Linux distro. _________________ Best regards,

I finally got the date confirmed (a little late I'm afraid - it's going to be held at at DKUUG/Symbion, Fruebjergvej 3, Copenhagen East, On Tuesday 1. April 2003, 19:00 in room M4.
It's free - as the room's sponsored by DKUUG. It's held by SSLUG - the local LUG.
The "advertising" text:
Klavs Klavsen talks about Gentoo Linux. The people behind Gentoo Linux have taken the best from BSD and Debian and created a distribution that combines this into a really powerfull community distribution.
Gentoo is a Linux-distribution that compiles from source. This way one can decide, among other things, which dependencies your programs is built with, and how aggressive an optimization for your hardware you want.
Klavs Klavsen vil go through what the Gentoo Linux distributionen is all about, including among other things, it's package system (called Portage) and some live examples of it.
The talk is for anyone who wants hear about a viable alternative to their current operating system. _________________ Best regards,

it's usually Hans Scou that does this - and I believe he will. _________________ Best regards,

Ah propeller boy.... I'm used to it being Ole or PTO who does all the dirty work for SSLUG, I completely forgot about Hans....
btw. PTO is giving a lecture on open source in Aarhus in this week (I think), should it have any interest. |
