Hi,
as you might have read earlier I cannot get past the USB and PCI hotplugging scripts at Gentoo1.4_rc3 installation. I tried Debian Woody instead and got a kernel panic. When I removed the pcmcia-cs scripts I was able to boot (woody does not do hotplugging upon initial install thus I could at least install the system and modify the config).
I tried to modify the livecd by disabling pcmcia support in the installation kernel. unfortunately quite some things went wrong and the resulting cd-r was bootable but had kernel panics (i think i caught something about it being unable to open /dev/tty. modprobe had a problem with finding something, too. I was not able to determine what it was cos the kernel panic prevented me from scrolling back. I wonder why modprobe complained cos I compiled a all-in-one-kernel with no modules). I would want to prevent the livecd installer to use the pcmcia modules or the pcmcia-cs or hotplugging scripts respectively. I did not find a way to extract any data from the initrd so i was not able to modify the way the installer handles things. Any help there?
BTW: My cardbus controller is a O2Micro OZ6912.

Regards,

Hi,

are you trying to install Gentoo? I always used a 1.2 disc to install gentoo when I had trouble with 1.4-RCx.

I have the same problem with kernel 2.4.20, but not with 2.4.19 (on gentoo system):
after ejecting a pcmcia card during running pcmcia-cs I got a kernel panic ...

Do you have some hints?
Greetings

i have the same card bus controller.. and i had the same error..

i burnt the 1.4_rc2 image onto a cd to boot the system .. after that
i downloaded the stage 1 tarball from ibiblio.org...

that's the best solution in my opinion..
btw i need help getting my pcmcia and wireless card detected..
any ideas?

No ideas here, sorry. I am with Debian now. That works. Thanks for your efforts.
See you,
