1. Why do you use (x)emacs?
2. What are your favorite features in it?
3. Any tips and tricks you'd like to share?

1. Reasons include:

  • dabbrev: a real must-have. Saves tons of typing
  • indenting: smart and customizable
  • syntax highlighting
  • viper: allows you to enjoy the best of vi's minimalistic key bindings and *emacs' kitchen-sinkness
  • desktop
  • macros
  • ediff
  • grep
  • dired
  • efs/ange-ftp
  • source control system integration (even with things like Clearcase)
  • w3... no, just kidding :)
    ...

2. All of the above, but I rank dabbrev and indenting very high

Obviously, most or all of the above is applicable to Emacs too.
