|
|
I've been using Gentoo for about a month now on my laptop, however the fact that a number of pieces of hardware aren't yet working well/at all, I find myself always falling back to windows.
Recently I've installed Microsoft Services for Unix (SFU) and found that it seems to be able to compile software designed for Linux quite easily (granted so far I've only tried bash, bzip2 and vim.)
What I want to know is has anyone had any experience with SFU, and is it a viable alternative to Linux? (In my case, I do a lot of coding and want to make sure it is cross-platform compatible.) _________________ --

I would rather recommend CygWin than MS own unix dabble.
Cygwin is proven and reliable alternative, you can even run X-windows under Windows.

cygwin for a definate
Aside for giving you the unix services you can build a lot of linux software on top of cygwin (gnome 1.4 mplayer and kde for definate) _________________ glows in the dark |
