do we have new rules?

accepted fine in gamers & players:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-290324-highlight-bluejay.html
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-272227-highlight-bluejay.html

not accepted, and moved to (wtf??) OTW
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-340318-highlight-.html

since when are new developers threatened like this 8O

all those games mentioned above are working flawlessly in gentoo (because this is the only OS we are able to check with). now why is an ebuild *DEMANDED* to make a game ontopic 8O

hey, its a game - be glad something is developed, right?
and be glad it is developed correctly, because it is userfriendly. it does not need admin intervention, because you are able to easyly install this from your $HOME as a user! with an ebuild you cant.

or am i missing something here 8O

tomk, ian! - comments please.

@ian!:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-215645-highlight-taper.html
this belongs to OTW, right? i am still waiting for your promissed ebuild <g>

I thought this was harsh too.

The blurb for gamers and players is: "Having problems getting your favorite Linux game to work? Want to discuss strategies? This is the place!"
It says "Linux Game", not "Linux game which must have a Gentoo e-build"

All windows Games run through wine and Cedega do not have e-builds. Should all chat about those be moved to OTW as well?

Just my 2 cents.

i just realize it took 2 admins (admins!), and no mod intervented. just curious 8O

//edit: just in case anyone wonders: Bluejay is my wife <g>. though.. i cant follow that harsh moderation at all. done by 2 admins, ah well..
calling me a nazi just needs one apalogize, and everything is fine. really strange!
a new game tested with gentoo only is pushed to OTW.
should i laugh or should i cry - you tell.

just btw..

if it would be about problems with an ebuild, it would belong to "portage & programming", IMHO. no matter if it is a game or whatever app.

Thanks for pointing those, I almost missed them. The support forums are for Gentoo-related stuff. Unsupported software that has ebuilds have their own forum (Unsupported Software) and others go to OTW. We don't have the man time to read all posts, but that does not mean that something that has not been moved yet is OK.

Yes, you're missing that moving a post to OTW is not an offense to your work.

hds: Whats your point? And please use the "report" thread. Certainly you know we don't find all threads that need moving. Unsupported is a new forum, so I've moved your thread from 2004 to it. :?

EDIT: Oh, didn't realize US required ebuilds... someone feel free to move it to OTW.

nice - feel free to live without new games developed to gentoo from us.
thx, and bye

btw.. you already annoyed markey with his amaroK, now you have someone else on your list.

if it is really your believe gentoo users are unable to live without ebuilds, there is something wrong with you, for sure.

Well I kind of see your point, yes the game is unsupported by Gentoo, but so are many new games. I was of the opinion that the Gamers and Players forum is not just a Gentoo support forum but a place for a wide range of Linux gaming discussion. If there's a post like "Here is a great new Linux game, please test it and tell me what you think." and then it gets shunted to otw, how are people supposed to learn about new games in development? They would have to wade through all the otw stuff to find the post, and it's likely that those people who actually are interested in new Linux games wouldn't go looking in otw to find it.
Well I dunno, maybe I'm wrong, but posts like "New Game: [Game]" look out of place in otw.

Frequently Asked Questions
Some of the most commonly heard questions in the Gentoo Community, along with answers.

Installing Gentoo
Having non-GUI problems with the Installation Guide? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

Multimedia
Help with creation, editing, or playback of sounds, images, or video. XMMS, mplayer, grip, cdparanoia and anything else that makes a sound or plays a video.

Desktop Environments
Problems with GUI applications? Questions about X, KDE, Gnome, Fluxbox, etc.? Come on in. NOTE: For multimedia, go up one forum

Networking & Security
Having problems getting connected to the internet or running a server? Wondering about securing your box? Ask here.

Kernel & Hardware
Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

Portage & Programming
Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Gamers & Players
Having problems getting your favorite Linux game to work? Want to discuss strategies? This is the place!

Other Things Gentoo
Still need help with Gentoo, and your question doesn't fit in the above forums? Here is your last bastion of hope.

Unsupported Software
This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm your systems health and stability and won't be supported by Gentoo developers.

Ok, so should the portage and programming description change? Or are all the requests for help with C/C++ snippets wrong because they arn't (even created) supported software?

Games and players...Stratagies?

Or should these just sections be moved/split away from the support stuff? Or are the Admins/mods just being a little too pedantic?

You are the one being pedantic. Things are like that, you can ask programming questions in P&P and we have no intention of breaking that forum in two. On the other hand, we try to keep the forums for support with support only, announcements of new games/new softwares usually go into OTW or US (if they have ebuilds people can use). It isn't that we don't like your contributions, we just try to keep the support forums as a good source of support and not announcements. You can use OTW for that.

Well, seems like we had enough fun and joy for today. If you can't discuss it with arguments, you don't need to discuss it here.

Locked.
