What is the different between emerging kde-base/kde over emerging a specific ebuild?
1. advantages?
2. disadvantages?
I have found that sometimes emerging a specific ebuild can help to get around an error in emerging. _________________ bluesky

Well, that particular e-build doesn't really contain anything, it just depends on all of the "normal" KDE packages. So you're not really losing anything if you're emerging them all on your own, except for your time. |

When I try to "emerge kde-base/kde" then it tied to emerge all the kde ebuilds available. So it took a very long time( as one of you noticed). And what happened is one of the ebuild has bug and it stopped the whole emerging process. So, I selected only ebuild 3.1 and it was fast and I got the install.
So the question is why emerging kde-base/kde when you only want the latest? Or this is a stupid question. _________________ bluesky

Huh? 'emerge kde-base/kde' emerges kde 3.1, which is the latest. It doesn't install any earlier versions, but it installs the whole of kde 3.1 (that is, all the packages, excluding i18n ones) |
