Ok, I boot off of the cd, network works fine. Started at stage 1, went though the whole thing, all the while using another console and lynx to see the installation instructions on the website.
Boot for the first time, no network. There's not even any options in the kernel config for nvnet, which is what I assumed I needed.
I tried to emerge net-misc/nforce-net or whatever it was, when I had booted from the cd, and the chrooted into my install. That didn't work either.
What am I doing wrong, and what do I need to do to fix it? |

| The nforce-net package should install the module you need. Did you remember to add nvnet to your modules.autoload ? |

Yeah, it's in there, but it still doesn't work.
I get the error along the lines of "can't start needed services" and "netmount didn't start" or something when it tries to bring up eth0
It's supposed to use dhcp, also.
The really irritating thing is that it works fine from the boot cd right away. |

maybe this is of any help..........
My Asus A7v8x won't bring up the broadcom network with the gentoo-sources kernel, because the broadcom 5702 is not supported in the gentoo-sources kernel. The xfs-pre6-sources does support it, which is the kernel used for the 1.4rc3-x86.iso. |

That fixed it, that kernel has all the support for the nforce stuff.
Thanks! |

I figured I'll add my experience to everything mentioned here.
Among many things I have nforce2 based M/Bs both A7n8x and A7n8x-deluxe.
Gentoo boot cd has supported nvnet module for quite so time, but to have everything working the appropriate steps atleast for me were:
After emerge system has finished,
emerge nvnet (nvnet)
emerge nvadio (for onboard audio)
Also, I originally tested gentoo cd at my friend's I still using gentoo boot cd from last year never bothered burning a new one, just boot and wget the latest stage1 , err back to the subject, for more about nforce based MBs be sure to check

I found that you don't just need the nforce stuff from nvidia otherwise the 3com chip won't work, and the PCI controller won't be detected.
A patch to the kernel is needed in order to get that stuff to work for the time being. |

Hi, I have a similay problem.
I went through the stage 1 install, but i notivced that when i emerge nforce-net, it said it hadnt compiled it properly, but i couldnt do anything about it at the time.
tried going to nvidias website and exactly the same.
reading stealthy's post, does that mean that you have to emerge nforce-net BEFORE emerging kernel source?
the nvidia graphics driver emerged fine.
im running an a7n8x-x, 2.6.5 kernel. |
