Gentoo User World Map

Going thru the "Where is everybody from?" thread, it seems like the global spread of Gentoo users has suprised a few of us.

Does anyone have any data <-> world map skills they could employ to give us a graphical representation of this spread.

i.e. a big map with dots of Gentoo User concentration.

i could imagine having the forum admins add two fields to the user database (of this forum).
so everybody could insert his/her coordinates which could be exported and converted to an xplanet/xearth/whatever coordinate file. this would at least display a mark for every coordinate-volunteer. anybody with some more skills ^^ could create a density diagram based on these data....

But that would be just the forum. Impressive as the user base is, it is not representative of Gentoo users worldwide. Just an example: I alone know ten times as many Japanese Gentoo users as are registered in the forum. The proper way to do this would be via gentoo-stats. Check http://stats.gentoo.org, and contact Maik Schreiber, I'm sure he's open for suggestions.

Just a guess, but I beleive there are many who don't use gentoo stats (or the forums for that matter).

Getting a completely accurate view of the global use of Gentoo would be near impossible, but a mix of the two could be good.

Off to check out more of this subject (and go over Gentoo-stats).
