I was recently installing qmail w/ virtual hosting. I installed it manually because there are so many different ways of doing it.
After I finished the install I was browsing the qmail ebuild files and I noticed that the qmail-vmailmgr setup used is very similar to the way I did it manually.
It got me thinking about these meta-ebuilds that tie in a number of packages.
It would be great if I could get into the authors head for a minute and understand why then setup the ebuild the way they did, but a better second choice would be an 'instant forum' that could be reached from some sort of ebuild link.
So after (or before) I install net-mail/qmail-vmailmgr I could jump to a forum about this package. - With contents like install problems, as well as long term sysadmin issues.
In the short term it could just fire off a search of this forum.
What do you think? |

That's a good idea. That would enhance the forum and
we wouldn't waste as much time looking for appropriate places
to post.
For instance, I'd like to know if there is some specific place to make requests for things that aren't
in the portage tree -- like HTML Tidy and Gifsicle? |

I like this idea. But I also foresee some problems managing the many hundred forums that this would result in... Unfortunately it seems like phpBB (this forum) doesn't support nested forums, which would almost be required in order to realize this... :-(

But we already do that before installing, don't we? ... ;-) |
