i installed a new motherboard now i have some concerns about dmesg output.
specifically:

Code:
dmesg |grep agp
Kernel command line: root=/dev/hda3 hdd=ide-scsi agp_try_unsupported=1
Linux agpgart interface v0.99 (c) Jeff Hartmann
agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 321M
agpgart: Unsupported Via chipset (device id: 3116), you might want to try agp_try_unsupported=1.
agpgart: no supported devices found.

i dont know where to pass the argument agp_try_unsupported=1, i tried putting it in grub.conf on the kernel line. but still the same thing happens. i am noticing much slower loading time for X

also another thing in dmesg im concerned about:
Code:

spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7.

is that something i should be worried about?
t happened with my old mobo too.

my new mobo is biostar m7vig pro, integrated audio, video, lan
gfx card is tnt2 agp

i did some searching and came across this thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=37227&highlight=kernel+sources

it seems i might have to recompile a new kernel to solve the agp problem.
though my mobo chipset is KM266

im still wondering about that "spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7" line though.
is that something i should be worried about?
i first noticed it a few days ago before my previous motherboard fried.

Adding support for via chipsets should fix this.

This is usually not something you need to worry about.

well, I recompiled my kernel wth agpgart as a module and now I can load agpgart with the try_unsupported option and it works.

i dont know why it wouldnt work when I passed that option to the kernel line. is that the wrong way to do it?
oh well, it works fine now.
