I just booted up my computer, tried an emerge sync, and got the following error:
!!! /usr/bin/rsync does not exist, so rsync support is disabled.
!!! Type "emerge net-misc/rsync" to enable rsync support.

So then I tried to emerge rsync:

!!! /usr/bin/rsync does not exist, so rsync support is disabled.
!!! Type "emerge net-misc/rsync" to enable rsync support.

This happens no matter what I emerge. I did upgrade portage a day or so ago, but I successfully emerge sync'd since then. Any ideas what might have happened, and how to fix it?

Hrm.. That's strange. Have you tried booting to the Install CD and using that as a repair disk to get it to rsync?

I rebooted (again) and this time no problems. Strange. If it happens again I'll do a more thourough check of the logs to see if I can figure out what happened. I do remember seeing something about a whoami error in xfree86 but sorry, no more details. Thanks for the quick response though.
