I really like Eterm for my terminal, Gentoo for my Filemanager, Galeon for my browser and Evolution for mail. I also run Fluxbox for my WM.
What are some of you favorite apps and what do they do for you. |

At work: GNOME desktop with Sawfish (no Nautilus or GMC), Galeon, X-Chat, Evolution, PAN, GAIM, Anjuta IDE, and Multi-Gnome-Terminal are my favorites. My default shell is zsh (I really love typing "cvs u" and hitting TAB for it to auto-complete the word "update" and then iterating through the changed files). Really cool.
At home: All the above but use Mozilla instead and OpenOffice.org as well. _________________ regards,

Zsh sounds good. I'll have to try it.
I run Konqueror for my file manager and sometimes my browser (it is very well integrated into KDE), Mozilla and Mozilla Mail, Pixie Plus for images, Konsole, and I still use Nano for basic text editing.
Eventually I'll spend the time to learn Emacs and/or vim.
Apache for webserving (of course), ProFTPd for FTP serving, and plan to install djbdns for DNS. _________________ The greatest deeds are still undone, the greatest songs are still unsung... |

One of my favorite programs when I had Windows was something called StrokeIt. It would respond to mouse gestures, and generate keystrokes based on the gesture. If you've ever played Black and White, it works similar to that. You held the right button, drew the shape, and the action was performed.
This was absolutely great for web-browsing, cause I'd link the Back and Forward keystrokes to the left and right motions. It simplified things a great deal. Does anyone know of a similar program for Linux? |

Actually..Opera has something similar to this built in. It's called "mouse gestures". |

no... but! i know that opera has mouse gestures builtin and you can use left and right motions to go back and forward. there's a bunch of other builtin gestures but i dont recall them.

i'm a big emu freak, myself.
scumvm - actually an interpreter for some old lucasarts games. recently added to portage, but compiling it yourself seems to work better -- at least for me.
exult - ultima VII interpretor.
quakeforge project
and the usuals - zsnes, zinc, fceu, boycott, etc
love the way portage handles emerging epsxe - glad they added that one. very nice. although, should they be distributing the bios with it?????? _________________ [resident anime junkie] -- not just a linux freak. |

Desktop+WM: GNOME+Sawfish, sometimes Enlightenment
Browser: Mozilla
Mail: Evolution (really nice piece of software IMHO)
News: Mozilla
IRC: xchat
IM: gabber
Filemanager: Nautilus (but I rather use just a console)
And of course the first programm I installed after the base installation: Vim.
Something that I really like on servers is screen. It's really nice to have multiple terminals via one SSH-connection.
Dailystrips is also really cool.
There're just too many good apps out there to name them all.

Well:
KDE 3: I would almost start recommending this one to general "OS? what's that?" folks, if there was already an excellent (staroffice's pretty excellent) and FAST (staroffice is not) office suite and if KDE3 would be just a little snappier, so it can run on cheap hardware at the same speed as windows 98. I think KDE will be the key to general acceptance of linux for "ordinary" people, because it offers the ease of use and intgration, that people are "used" to.
NVTV: Finally I have good tv out from my nvidia card with little hassle.
Mplayer: plays those divx like a charm
XMMS: Music makes me happy.
Sylpheed(for the quick work)/Evolution (for the complete work)
Konqueror in all its ways: because it is fast enough on my hardware and it is very well intgrated. I love the audioCD slave.
XFCE because it is very usable and FAST when I'm not in the mood for the KDE "overload"
What I miss is a working LICQ for kde3. I want ICQ in my dock
If only I could compile the CVS version, but it crashes...
MC is the one app that I always emerge first when I am building a system. It is also the one I use most... (I was an NC user in my dos-days.)
Staroffice is what I'm writing my thesis on after MSOffice detroyed some hard work.. and I can also work on other os-s with it, whenever they are at hand. _________________ *****************************
