Is there anyway to improve the performance of grip. It worked great under redhat (6x rip and encode speed) and I have the same kernel options set and i'm lucky if i get 2x speed. Any suggestions

Default install of Grip uses cdparanoia in its most paranoid mode. if you absolutely *must* have speed over accuracy, you can add "-Y" or "-Z" to the arguments list for cdparanoia, turning off most or all of the checking.

On my box, a new CD will rip at about 2x in full paranoia mode. -Y moves this to ~6x, -Z to >10x.

I only use full paranoia mode if a track is so damaged that there are audible defects in the encoded mp3.
