Hi
This sounds very noobie, because it is, but the desktop guide for this i found very confusing so wondered if anyone could help
And yes ive already searched the forums and only found half the answer to my question!
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=32869&highlight=usb+modules i took a look at that thread, first of all where abouts are all the usb modules in menuconfig because i cant find any of them and im not really sure how to do the modules properly *ive only used suse and redhat:(* and another thing how do i exactly load the modules?oh ya after ive done the menuconfig how do i compile the modules?imean do you have to recompile your whole kernel or can you get away with just doing the modules alone? i can do the rest its just those things im a bit fuzzy with and i dont want to break my gentoo install after only having it for a week:)
thanks alot

Another thing.

This FAQ. You might find it interesting.

To compile a kernel, basically read every description in the help system, turn on everything you think you might need, disable everything you know you won't need, and hope for the best...

I think that trial-and-error is the best way to learn how to compile a kernel, also because if your new kernel won't boot, you can boot from the livecd, chroot in your system, env-update and source, then you can try again...
