Building stage 2 'emerge system' failed with
/usr/lib/portage/bin/emake: line 14: 23673 Illegal instruction make ${MAKEOPS} ${EXTRA_EMAKE} "$@"
!!! ERROR: sys-devel/gcc-3.2.2-r4 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 305, Exitcode 132
!!! (no error message)
I've tried an 'emerge sync' no problem. But restarting 'emerge system' gave the same error.
'emerge -u system' gives another error but similar:
/usr/sbin/ebuild.sh: line 1157: 25971 Illegal instruction make PARALLELMFLAGS="${MAKEOPTS}"
!!! ERROR: sys-libs/glibc-2.3.2 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 357, Exitcode 132
!!! (no error message)
I've tried to update portage:
/usr/sbin/ebuild.sh: line 1157: 26117 Illegal instruction make CFLAGS="-march=i386 -O1 -pipe"
!!! ERROR: sys-apps/portage-2.0.47-r8 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 44, Exitcode 132
!!! (no error message)
Any suggestions? |

Have you overclocked your system?
If so, reset it to factory default and retry. Many of the compiler problems, esp when compiling GCC or the Kernel is related to overclocking the system or to aggressive CFLAGS, but yours look ok.
Another issue is of course memory, if you have memory that is about to fail or are not really up to standard, you may see these kinds of errors too.

No I don't. Tested components with linux. Memory testes with memtest86. Conservative bios settings. ....
I don't think it's the hardware or there settings.
BTW when is make.conf read out? Everytime when emerge is started?
