I can get x going no problem, everything is fine there. I load x, i've got flux up and running, i'm happy. except, no direct rendering.

Code:
# insmod /lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r10/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.o
Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r10/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.o will taint the kernel: non-GPL license - Proprietary. (C) 2002 - ATI Technologies, Starnberg, GERMANY

have you considered upgrading your X to 4.3 version which has build in support for your card.

heh, I just did that the other day. Soon as I did that, I couldn't boot. I was getting c1 - c6 respwaning too fast.

Turns out it probably had nothing to do with x, and I think I just ended up overwriting my devfsd.conf doing an etc-update, but I still spent 4 days trying to figure it out, and just YESTERDAY I came back to x 4.2.x. I'm a bit... afraid of x 4.3 at the moment.

Still, even though I couldn't boot normally, I could boot to single user and got x going there, and still didn't have direct rendering. I don't know wtf i'm doing wrong, but it's either something so small it's being overlooked, or it's so big nobody can see it.
