Gnome just hung!

Hi,

I left my machine on last night - which I usually do - and found that after pressing the shift key to stop the monitor's power saving, the machine had hung.

I used to use KDE (but have recently been using Gnome-2.2.1 to see what it's like) and never had this trouble - only the mouse would stop working, but I could get the mouse back by removing the USB connection and moving the mouse around while shifting from virtual terminals to X.

Has anyone had this problem? If so, how can I fix it?
