When I type "emerge --sync", the round-robin server sends me always to a rsync mirror in Sapporo Japan which flashes its welcome message and then is totally unresponsive. If I try to use any of the rsync mirrors by typing | Code: | | SYNC="whatever" emerge --sync |
then I get through, but portage starts downloading huge files (right now portage is trying to get stage2 for MIPS) instead of just syncing normally. Why is the round-robin server b0rken, and how can I manage to rsync normally?

I have no such problems (from NL)
Try typing emerge rsync a few times in a row, when the response is abnormal.
If all is well you'll get assigned to a different mirror automagically. |
