Hi all

I can't export LANG=zh_CN.GB2312,which is my native language,in /etc/profile, If I did, programs such as xmms, gtk and gimp will not display any fonts, not even english fonts.

I already localised my gentoo to enable it to display my native language characters.

what makes that happen???

Does it do the right thing if you say
Code:
export LC_ALL=zh_CN

instead?

only LC_ALL=zh. CN_GB18030 can work, but it will cause all programs crash under gnome.

Well I'm thinking maybe it's got something to do with your font setup, but I've no idea what, sorry.

Have you got all of your fonts installed and configured correctly? fc-cache needs to be run after you install the correct fonts to let X (via xft) see where the fonts are. You also need your profile configured in .profile or .bashrc or somewhere similar.

I've just found a similar problem after I updated to XFree 4.3.0rc2 today. when starting any gtk+ 1.2 apps, I've got the follow error message:
Gdk-WARNING **: Error converting icon name to text property: -2
I can use these apps only when I set LC_ALL=en_US. But then no chinese charactors:(
Other programs works well, qt3, kde, gtk2 all have no problem, only gtk goes mad :(

For GTK1.2 you might need to alter your .gtkrc file and specify fonts in there...I have no idea what the settings would be for Chinese though.

After a recent update I get the same error when I set LANG=en_GB
Fonts in gimp, xsane etc only appear with LANG=C or POSIX or en_US

Has anyone solved this yet?
