sometimes when i do an emerge -p [ebuild_name], i get something like:

[ebuild UD] gnome-base/libglade-0.17-r6 [2.0.1]

the version number in brackets is already installed. the other version number is clearly older.

what does the "D" mean? what is emerge going to do with this package?

thx,
brian

does that mean it uninstalls the more recent version, or will it keep both?

Too bad "D" isn't in the manpage for emerge, where it belongs.

To avoid 'D's in emerges: use the -U option (instead of -u).
