Hi all.
When I try to: emerge festival
I get the following output:
>>> emerge (1 of 1) media-sound/festival-1.4.2-r3 to /

and then nothing else happens. I have tried doing an emerge sync and I have the latest version of portage (2.0.46-r9). I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Although I haven't compiled it, I did download the source files.
Code:

# emerge festival -uf
...
kutsuya mysql # emerge -u festival

Looks like it wants to build. :) Does 'emerge -uf festival' do anything for you?

ok, i did emerge -uf festival and it downloaded everything for me. But it still wouldn't build with emerge festival. So I did this:
ebuild festival-1.4.2-r3.ebuild merge
that placed an image of the install in /var/tmp/portage/festival-1.4.2-r3/image. Then i copied the files into my system manually. The only problem is that if i do emerge -s festival it says that it is not installed. Will everything be as it should be if I emerge -i festival? Thanks for the help.

Actually emerge -uf festival would only download update/new files. It was just a test to see if the ebuild was doing something.

Based on my understanding(reading man ebuild), if ebuild package.ebuild merge completes successfully, then emerge package should also.

Maybe portage is damaged. You might try:
Code:

# emerge rsync
# emerge portage
# emerge -u festival

If it still won't compile, could you send the results of:
Code:

# emerge info

Here's what I get despite if I do an emerge festival, emerge festival-1.4.2-r3.ebuild or what
any clues guys?
If it matters, I just recently did a emerge system but everyother ebuild works that I've tried. I've also created the files its whining about, but it deletes them so...
