If a PS:T setup isn't too different from other IE games, it should be quite easy to create an ebuild. My latest notion of GemRB is that it isn't quite ready for prime time, but slowly getting there. Another option would be to try and install the game via its Windows installer directly using wine, but I'm not sure in how far InstallShield is functional with the current release.
I don't own a copy of Torment and don't plan to get one during the next three months (boring real life stuff...), and it is not that interesting for my installation method since there is no modding activity I'm aware of. But if you want to learn a little (or even better already know a little) about ebuilds, you can do it yourself quite easily.

I'm sorry, but I have this "boring real life stuff" too for at least two months, but thanks for reply.

Um... buggered if I know what that means...
Can you please 'fingerprint' your game and send me the result? Section 2 of the HowTo tells you how.

I don't think your error was caused by this, but yes, the 5-CD-version will not work.

Uh, you might want to wait a day or two with IWD1, there's something I need to fix for the US/UK versions... been meaning to do it for two weeks, but you know how it is...

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".

An Assertion failed in Chitin.cpp at line numer 1636
Programm says: Error initialising key table, bad key file

vielen dank.

yona

Yonathan, are you a member of the 'games' group?
Check it with

qpkg -l iescripts

tell you? ('qpkg' is from the 'gentoolkit' package)
And please post

Hmm...
'/usr/games/bin' really should be in your PATH variable...
Type
Code:
source /etc/profile

and try again to run 'bg2' (in the same shell, mind you).

Basically by typing
Code:
export PATH="$PATH:/usr/games/bin"

but this will only last as long as the shell is open. Thing is, the Gentoo baselayout should handle this for you: As soon as you are a member of 'games', '/usr/games/bin' should be added to your PATH in every shell you start. I have no idea why this doesn't happen for you.

EDIT: An easy way to solve this would be this command (as root):
Code:
ln -s /usr/games/bin/bg2 /usr/bin/bg2

bash-2.05b# export PATH="$PATH:/usr/games/bin"
bash-2.05b# source /etc/profile
mirco mirco # bg2
bash: bg2: command not found
mirco mirco #

this ist different of what happend last time when i entered source /etc/profile on the console

[edit] i enterd the ln .... an tried to start bg2 and it works!!!

only problem ist, that system didn't found a cdrom-drive. do i have to mount it first?

The 'source /etc/profile' command restores your PATH variable to its original value, so don't use it _after_ 'export PATH=...'. Actually, you don't need it at all. Himmeldonnerwetternochmal.

i entered my bg2 cd1 in my cdrom-device an typed bg2

it started but then i got an error calling:
wir finden kein cd-rom-laufwerk in eurem rechner. ihr könnt aber das spiel bg2 nicht ohne cd-rom-laufwerk spielen

i mounted the cdrom-device first an there was no problem O_o

In your home directory, in ~/.wine/dosdevices/, is there a symlink to your cdrom drive? If not, Windows software run with wine cannot use a cdrom.
Create one using
Code:
ln -s /mnt/cdrom ~/.wine/dosdevices/f:

where 'f:' is a drive letter I picked at random, use another one if it suits you better. This time round, you should not be root.

Ok, we're getting there... slowly...
Please post the contents of the file '~/.iegames/bg2/profiles/default/bgmain.exe.wine.log' from your non-root-user's home directory.
As for sound: In section 4 of the HowTo, there is a sample wine config file, you can see the entries below [WinMM] there. Find the correspondig entries in your ~/.wine/config file (or use the example file) and uncomment the wine sound driver line appropriate for your system. This would be 'winearts.drv' if you use KDE, and most likely 'winealsa.drv' or 'wineoss.drv' otherwise.

if i do this i get the following result:
bash-2.05b$ ~/.iegames/bg2/profiles/default/bgmain.exe.wine.log
bash: /home/mirco/.iegames/bg2/profiles/default/bgmain.exe.wine.log: Permission denied

i did it as user

the same result if i try to see the log-file as root. Permission denied

Quote:

"Drivers" = "winearts.drv" ; for KDE

Um... OK. Looks like a permission thingy. Why you don't have read permission for these files I do not know. But to sort it out do this (as non-root-user if not stated otherwise):
Code:
rm -rf /home/mirco/.iegames

Did it work? Yes -> Proceed with next command ; No -> Retry the rm command as root user, then proceed with
Code:
bg2

Does Baldur's Gate 2 work for non-root now? Yes -> Solved; No -> The files created by my scripts have bad file permissions; proceed with
Code:
find /home/mirco/.iegames -type d -exec chmod u+xrw {} \;
find /home/mirco/.iegames -type f -exec chmod u+rw {} \;
bg2

It _should_ work now as non-root, if no other problem pops up. Somehow I'm beginning to harbor the suspicion that your system or at least your user profile is horribly broken, if you don't mind me saying so.
