Hi everybody,

just got some n00b questions related to rc3:

Does this affect the (up-to-date) version of gentoo already installed on my computer?

Am I lucky, because I didn't install gentoo on my other computer yesterday?

Has anybody installed rc3 yet - is there anything noteworthy?

So the basic question is: What difference does it make?

The releases are only starting points for new installations. If your system is up to date then you end up at the same point regardless of which release you began with.

Releases just enhance/simplify the install experience.

rc3 is what is on the CD. Gentoo versions are not the same as binary distributions. Once you've done an emerge sync, you're pretty much running the latest Gentoo. gcc is an exception to this. If you've installed with 1.2 (gcc-2x), then you'll need to upgrade gcc to be completely current.

thanks for replying so fast.

so has anyone already done a new install? I just had a quick look at the updated installation instructions - I've got the feeling that I wouldn't even notice the difference when doing a new install..
