Just to start off, the mouse works fine in 2.4......
the configuration in the kernel and the xorg.conf is exactly the same as my ultra5 for mouse configurations.
running modprobe sermouse will give me:
input: Sun Mouse on su/serio0
But if i unplug it and plug it mack in, there will be no message about adjusting baud rate like there is on the ultra 5.
any ideas.

Two comments.
- xorg.conf is not the same for kernel-2.6 as for kernel-2.4, and the mouse definition is one place where the two versions differ. See
http://dev.gentoo.org/~fmccor/docs/xorg/xorg.conf/xorg.conf.html
for running examples which show the differences. (Of course, if you don't have a Creator or Elite graphics card, don't change your configuration to use sunffb driver. )
- With some kernels-2.6.x, once you bring xorg up, you must unplug the mouse and plug it back in to get it to work. Don't ask me why; this is a kernel problem.
How do I know? Same thing with gpm: To get the mouse to work, unplug it and then plug it back in.
Hope this helps;

i had actually cut and pasted that config in a few days ago. All of this works in 2.6 with my ultra 5, its the ultra 60 that it isnt. Again 2.4 has no problems

Kernel 2.4 is more stable on U60, and without more information (like which 2.6.x) it is hard to guess. For reference, this kernel .config works for me
on a U60 (and an old 2.6 --- 2.6.7-r14, taken from a running 2.6.7, although that system is currently back to 2.4 for stability reasons):
Code: |
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV=y
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV_PSAUX=y
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV_SCREEN_X=1024
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV_SCREEN_Y=768
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSE=y
CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2=m
CONFIG_MOUSE_SERIAL=y
CONFIG_MOUSE_VSXXXAA=m

Sorry I can't be of more help. You might get better responses on the IRC freenode #gentoo-sparc channel.

The kernel at the time was 2.6.9
Ive had to recompile everything because of a bad make.conf setting. Its finishing up now. It does look like the mouse is recognized in 2.4 as the baud rete is set. Havent recompiled a 2.6 yet to try.

I have a working mouse on ultra 60 with kernel 2.6.5
sometimes it locks up. Then I detach the mouse from the keyboard plug and reattach it back ( as mentioned in the previous posts) , and it works. |
