Where are the photo's linked to in the Gentoo Weekly Newsletter? The link says that the files aren't found.

The photos are located at distro.ibiblio.org, but I think the server is down. I've been having problems downloading files lately.

Check this mirror:

Actually, no they're not. They're on a different ibiblio server that shouldn't (hasn't) been affected by the recent ibiblio slowdowns.

BTW, just for the record, the recent "slowdowns" with ibiblio haven't really been ibiblio's fault -- Gentoo is growing in popularity and ibiblio has lots of other projects that they need to serve up, too. So for now, Gentoo has been placed on a separate server that has a cap of 1024 concurrent http connections. When you see problems with things being downloaded, that's one of the reasons why. Think about 1024 concurrent connections and how much traffic that represents. Then pause for a moment, thank ibiblio for the free service they offer the Gentoo project and stop grumbling about the problems.

Gentoo has added over 10 new distfile mirrors over the past couple of months, especially international ones. If you're having troubles with ibiblio, give one of the other ones a shot.

(this isn't directed at the posters in this thread, btw -- it's more of a general statement to all the ibiblio bashers that have been whining over the past few weeks)

Yes it's growing quite large, it's excellent - Gentoo is great for the philosophy of the free software in general.

I've been using an australian mirror for quite some time for four reasons:
1. So there's not too much pressure on ibiblio
2. Faster downloads for me
3. Reduces the money that australia must pay for their connection to america
4. Decreases unneccessary load by having my data downloaded from the nearest location - thus speeding the internet - or at least decreasing the rate by which it slows down.

I'm not grumbling, I just stated a fact. And I run a mirror for all the Portuguese users that use the Portuguese Forum and pass by #gentoo-pt.

I tried to download a file, that wasn't present on severall mirror servers, and is mentioned on this bug report. So don't get me wrong, and I really appreciate not only Ibiblio's service, but all private and institutional mirrors, that offer gentoo community it's service.

(and I'm not mad, even if I sound like) :)

Thanks for the correction,
Ricardo Cordeiro :)
