I would like to collect opinion(s) about cpu scheduler should we use for the next release :)
If somebody has an opinion feel free to post it here in free discussion form :P :)

The love-sources tradition is the NickSched , Staircase is "trendy" and using by many of people , and O(1) since mass mm migration to the vanilla is also very good at now.
Latest release (2.6.11-rc4-love1) is doing well with NickSched and I working on extending it a little with "Genetics" for futher release. Is also possible to have 2 cpu schedulers selectable from menuconfig for ex. but It surely will take a lot of time.

please involve into this thread and express opinion :)

also : this is from rc4-mm1 release note :
Quote:

- Various fixes and updates all over the place. Things seem to have slowed
down a bit.

With some new concepts , We talked about mm and that is no longer good performance / speed increse reason to build a patchset on it. Really many of speed-increse / performance fixes is after mass mm migration in rc4 vanilla already.
For example there is even no any speedy cpu sched fix in mm at now... and finally We can add some good mm parts by hand. Everybody know also :) that mm is a test/playground for 2.6 and many of patches from it can give potential bugs.

cheers :).

yeah, i have same opinion about mm, it's very very unstable. from last 4 or 5 mm's the only usable one was your fixed mmvivid. and that was still very unstable on other boxes.
so mm base is nothing for good releases anymore it seems :/

eh, nicksched genetics? wow, as a little fan of genetic as, this sounds really interesting :P :)

but somehow i also like sched_iso stuff very much, also doing very fine here, perhaps vivid could be based on that, hehe. more choice, more fun...

greets!

hmmm :) Nick Piggin also posted his 13 interesting O(1) fixes at lkml.

About ISO policy .I`m really focused on genetics implementation , but I think I can focus on iso policy after this release - for the future as addition to nicksched. So many things so less of time :) If I will have a proper time I will prepare some anohter suprise also :) but - time is going so fat :) hehe...

:)

cheers.

I'd go either with nicksched, or maybe ingosched [ O(1) ].

Definatly not staircase - I personally don't like it, and nitro, ck, cko and friends got that taken care of, I think.

Yeah, Nick Piggin's 13 patches look interesting... I would bet most of them would go to -mm soonish.

hmm. with that poin of view - it`s logically to not double staircase so it is in nitro for example.

We have pretty working NickSched now... :)

cheers.
