Chicken & Egg problem:
WUSB11 2.6 is not supported in the kernel, but I do have the source for the drivers. So, I need to compile this before I can use emerge, but I can't emerge the kernel sources without a network connection.
Can anyone tell me if this will work?
1. Download standard kernel package.
2. Do a stage 3 install.
3. Manually gunzip kernel package
4. compile driver for WUSB11
5. emerge and compile kernel |

Never tried it but it should work in theory. I don't think portage will know which kernel tree is installed unless you pull it down by emerge though. You may end up having to pull the kernel package down after you already have the system up and running if you need portage to know what's going on for some reason.
Give it a shot. Worse case scenario, it doesn't pan out, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. |

This was easier since I am setting up a dual-boot machine.
Steps:
1. Download kernel source (from gentoo mirror) and atmel driver source.
2. Stage 3 install. I don't know if a stage 2 would work.
3. bunzip2 kernel source
4. Compile / install kernel and boot from it.
.... Make sure usb support can be provided by the alternative uhci.o driver if applicable.
5. Compile the atmel driver and install
6. modprobe the usbvnetr (not sure of name)
7. ifconfig eth0 up
8. Continue with network and system configuration. |
